Around two million euro has been announced for towns across the Shannonside region to develop the tourist potential of the areas.
Carrick-on-Shannon, Boyle, Athlone and Longford Town are all to benefit under the Bord Fáilte Destination Towns Initiative.
The Carrick-on-Shannon project will focus on making the town more accessible to visitors and will include new signage, improved lighting and coach parking to complement the current public realm plans.
In Boyle, the money is being spent on the development of a new walkway which will link key amenities to the town including King House, Boyle Abbey and the Lough Key Cycleway.
In Longford and Westmeath, the money will be focused on Athlone Castle and work on the canal walkway and linkage project to Longford Town.
