Domestic violence services urge people living at home in fear to contact them

The Domestic Violence Advocacy Service for Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan is reassuring people that they are still there to help despite some restrictions due to Covid-19.

DVAS has support centres in Sligo and Carrick-on-Shannon as well as an outreach service, but the face-to-face aspect of the work is curtailed at the moment.

Carmel McNamee says people should be aware though that the support is still available through making contact over the phone or on the organisations website.

She says they are aware that women may be feeling under increased pressure due to people being encouraged stay in their homes and limit contact

The Domestic Violence advocate says this makes it more important than ever for woman to be aware of the supports that are available.
