Roscommon and Leitrim county councils spent almost €370,000 on legal fees in 2016.
Details released to Shannonside FM show that the local authority in Roscommon paid lawyers nearly €263,000 last year.
Leitrim’s bill was significantly less, at just over €105,000.
The two councils also spent more than €100,000 between them on coroners services in 2016, with Roscommon’s bill being €53,000 and Leitrim’s amounting to €49,000.
The standard role of a coroner is to certify a person’s death.
Longford County Council says its fees in this regard haven’t been finalised yet.
