Carrigallen principal demands more investment in sport

Prospective councillors are being urged to make the provision of sport facilities for schools a priority in their upcoming campaigns.

Declan Conboy, the principal of Carrigallen Vocational School, is appealing to both local and national government agencies to allocate funding to back up their calls for increased participation in sport.

It comes as Carrigallen Vocational School is named winner of ‘Ireland’s Fittest Mixed School’ in a fitness challenge undertaken by thousands of students around the country.

Mr Conboy says many rural schools areas do not even have a playing pitch for their pupils.
