Carrick-on-Shannon’s new CCTV system was used within 15 minutes to apprehend an alleged gang of thieves.

That’s according to gardai who say the state-of-the-art system has already proven to be a big success since its launch in late May.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan attended the official launch of the €150,000 scheme last night which has 33 cameras dotted around the county town.
