Carrick-Leitrim village blueway moves a step closer

The planning process has begun for developing a blueway trail between Carrick-on-Shannon and Leitrim village.

Leitrim County Council has erected signs in the areas, advising people it intends to seek part 8 planning permission for the works, meaning the decision would lie with local councillors.

The trail will be almost 3.5 kilometres long, developed on public roads and private farmland, with a spur to Port Shaun Castle of 570 metres.

It will provide tourists with walking, cycling and canoeing activities.

Seamus Gibbons, the owner of Electric Bike Trails at Leitrim village, says it would be a major boost.
