Carrick chamber chief blasts Tesco strike

A Carrick-on-Shannon business chief has urged staff at Tesco to rethink their planned Christmas strike.

Colm McGrath, the president of the local chamber of commerce, says he has sympathy with the workers who have called a one-day stoppage for Saturday, December 22.

Mandate Trade Union, which is behind the planned action in a row over contracts and working hours, has asked shoppers not to cross the pickets it will place.

But Mr McGrath says staging the strike on what will be the busiest shopping day before Christmas won’t win the workers’ sympathy and he’s urged them to reconsider.
