Cancer Society says sunbathing isn’t necessary for Vitamin D

Sun bathing is not required in order to get enough vitamin D, according to the Irish Cancer Society.

The society’s comments come after a GP blamed the severe lack of sunshine in Donegal for the high number of people suffering from osteoporosis.

The Irish Osteoporosis Society recommends people spend 15 minutes a day in the sunshine without sunblock to get enough vitamin D.

Kevin O’Hagan, cancer prevention manager with the Irish Cancer Society, says people shouldn’t stay any longer than this in the sun unprotected.
