A special residents’ group has been established to strongly oppose plans for a large council estate in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Last September the government announced funding of €3.75 million for Leitrim County Council to develop 24 houses at Attyrory, just outside the town.
But residents in nearby Ros na hInse object because they feel entry for the development would be gained directly through their housing estate.
They have formed a group called Attyrory Residents’ Association specifically for this campaign and have arranged a meeting with local councillors tonight.
Eugene Courtney, a member of the association, says there was a standoff last week when the council were beginning site-investigation work at the site.
He claims the site is completely unsuitable for housing.
