Calls for new primary school to be developed in Carrick-on-Shannon

There have been calls for a new primary school in Carrick on Shannon to be developed urgently to deal with an increase in the local population.

The Junior Education Minister Mary Mitchell o Connor told the Seanad recently that an application from Scoil Mhuire in the town for a new greenfield site would be examined by department officials.

However, Senator Frank Feighan, who raised the matter in the upper house of the Oireachtas, feels that capacity and space issues are affecting the quality of life enjoyed by pupils and staff.
