Ballinamore Group confirm alternative properties offered for asylum seekers

A spokesperson for the Ballinamore Community Group which is opposing plans to locate 130 asylum seekers at an apartment complex in the town says they have been offered some alternative properties for a different model that they are proposing.

Gordon Hughes who’s a local estate agent says none of the properties that may be involved will be connected with his company because he doesn’t want any conflict of interest arising.

He says the people in the town have always maintained there’s a much better way to integrate asylum seekers rather than having all of them living in one separate centre.

Gordon Hughes told the Joe Finnegan show this morning that they’ve outlined some of their proposals to Minister Stanton and they believe their plans are very similar to what was unveiled by the Minister in Cork last week.
