Insurance company Axa is set to close its branch in Carrick on Shannon next month.
Customers with the company have been informed by letter that the branch, located at Landmark Court will shut on the 19th of October and the nearest branch for people now to drop into will be located in Sligo or Cavan.
Customers have been informed that the closure is a result of reduced demand for in-branch visits and for what is claimed is a greater use of the company’s website to conduct transactions.
It is not yet known if staff at the branch will be redeployed, or if the closure will result in job losses.
A spokesman for AXA has said the “company is responding to what our customers are telling us they want and how they want to engage”.
They claim AXA research shows 54% of AXA customers favour telephone based purchases, 34% favour online purchases and just 9% favour branch (face-to-face) purchases.
