Communities in Co Roscommon are being warned of significant applications for forestry plantations in recent months.
The Save Leitrim group which is opposing the proliferation of plantations in the county says there have been applications for over 625 acres of forestry in Roscommon over the last three months.
The group says that companies who want to avail of the government grant schemes are looking to counties adjoining Leitrim where they feel there is not as much opposition to overcome.
While most forestry is still not subject to planning permission, applications must be made for a licence to the Department of Agriculture and people can view these on the department website and make objections if they want.
John Brennan from Save Leitrim says people in Roscommon need to be aware of what might be planned in their communities.
