21 people were fined in the south Leitrim area between January and August this year for illegal dumping with nine individuals fined for having no waste management in place.
New figures from Leitrim County Council reveal that in total it issued fines to 52 individuals for a range of offences.
According to documents obtained through Freedom of Information, Leitrim County Council received over 230 complaints of fly-tipping or illegal dumping between January and August of this year in the south Leitrim area.
Illegal dumping was the most common complaints in both Municipal Districts that council staff were alerted to, while incidents of abandoned vehicles and hoarding of waste were also reported to the council.
Reports of burning of rubbish and foul odours were also made, while two reports of a vehicle losing recycling material along the road were also made in the Ballinamore M.D.
The issue of fly-tipping at bring banks were also among reports made to the council in Carrick on Shannon and Ballinamore this year.
Just one report of dog fouling was also reported to Leitrim County Council this year in the Manorhamilton district.
