Over 1,000 acres of forestry planted in Leitrim last year

The Minister for Agriculture has confirmed that over 500 hectares of forestry were planted in county Leitrim last year.

The figures, published by Michale Creed,  follow a query issued by Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny regarding the number of new hectares planted in the county between 2013 and 2017.

Last year 536.22 hectares were planted in Leitrim – while figures for 2016 show that 433 hectares of forestry were planted that year in the county.


2017 figures for Roscommon and Longford are not yet available – but latest figures for 2016 show  435.04  hectares were planted in Roscommon, and 272 hectares in Longford the same year.
