Leitrim council will carry out full review of winter plan later this year to consider extra routes

Leitrim County Council has confirmed that it will carry out a full review of its winter maintenance plan later this year to see if any extra routes can be added to it.

This month’s meeting of the local authority heard concerns that no additional areas will be allocated to the plan as resources are limited.

Sinn Fein Councillor Brendan Barry presented evidence which he claimed shows that extra roads could be salted or gritted if changes were made to the overall plan.

The development of the plan is made by Council staff and is only approved by Councillors in the autumn each year.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound this afternoon, the Council says that ahead of the preparation of the next plan, and if extra capacity can be found, additional routes may be considered.

Councillor Barry says he will not give up his fight for extra gritting supplies to be provided by the Council.
