There are calls for the government to begin planning for possible food shortages.

A Leitrim food entrepreneur believes Ireland will need to significantly up its production of domestic produce in the coming years.

Recent warnings of the irreversible impact of climate change as and a greater focus on sustainable farming has raised fears that Irish consumers may not have year-round access to certain foods they have come to expect.

John Brennan is the chairman of Blake's Always Organic which is based in Drumshanbo's Food Hub.

The company is currently is the middle of its second term as part of the Lidl Kickstarter programme for small companies partnering with the major German retailer.

Speaking on this week's Bottom Line, he believes the Government needs to consider a sustainable food strategy as a matter of urgency:
