The publication of route options for the Dromod to Carrick-on-Shannon by-pass has led to a lot of concern in local communities around the county town

Independent Leitrim councillor Enda Stenson says he doesn't think he and other local council members can support options to route the Dromod-Carrick by-pass through housing areas on the outskirts of the town.

Residents in Attirory have formed an action group to campaign against an option that would see the route go through their area, and Councillor Stenson says there are other areas like Hartley and Lisduff where people are equally worried.

The Independent councillor says a by-pass of Carrick-on-Shannon is needed, but it can't be at the expense of people who have built their lives in areas around the town over the past couple of decades.
