Hundreds attend Lyra McKee’s funeral in Belfast

Murdered journalist Lyra McKee has been laid to rest in her native Belfast.

A celebration of the 29-year-old’s life earlier heard a call for politicians to work together to bring about lasting peace in Northern Ireland.

It was packed with mourners coming to pay their respects to the 29-year-old, killed by dissident republicans in Derry last Thursday.

The President, Taoiseach and British Prime Minister attended, along with the leaders of the main northern political parties.

They were urged by Belfast priest Fr. Martin Magill to work together to produce a better life for young people.

As the hearse left to applause, Lyra’s family said a final goodbye at a private burial in the city.
