Government establishes compensation fund for women affected by Cervical Check scandal

The Government has approved the setting up of a compensation fund for those directly affected by the Cervical Check scandal.

It will open in the next few weeks for all 221 women who were identified as being given incorrect smear results.

In the case of those who have since died, their next of kin will be able to claim from the scheme. The Health Minister says the amount of money that will be made available will be decided by an Independent Assessment Panel.
