It's good news for people who have bene forced to stay in hotels despite having all the required Covid paperwork

Fully vaccinated people who are currently in Mandatory hotel quarantine will be allowed to leave once the regulations are signed.

The regulations are currently being drafted and are due to be passed in the coming days. Elite athletes are officially exempt from hotel quarantine with the necessary regulations being signed last night.

This afternoon a case is before the high court which may pave the way for an exemption for couples travelling abroad for surrogacy.

Ireland is the only EU state with mandatory hotel quarantine. The European Commission has raised concerns about whether the measure aligns with EU law.

Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand says it's invited the Irish authorities to align it's measures more closely with council recommendations.

The Commission has written to Government today to ask what criteria was used to determine which EU countries to include on the list.

It says it has ten days to respond.
