Escalation policy implemented at Tullamore Hospital due to overcrowding

Tullamore Hospital has activated its’ escalation policy today as it grapples with overcrowding.

According to management at the hospital it’s very busy with 24 patients waiting to be admitted to an inpatient bed in the emergency department.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation claims that there are in fact 35 people on trolleys or chairs in the hospital making it the fourth most overcrowded hospital in the country today. Patients are being advised that if they present at the hospital they will experience delays.
