At yesterday’s meeting of the county’s Joint Policing Committee, Superintendent Jim Delaney revealed that the amount of detections for drugs with intent to supply had doubled so far in 2016.

He said the most common type of detections were cannabis and cocaine, with some heroin offences also.

Meanwhile, burglaries have decreased by 56 per cent in the county this year, but shoplifting has risen by 55 per cent.

Superintendent Delaney told Shannonside FM that the amount of drugs detections shows that the gardaí are tackling the issue.
