Department of Health denies warning about religious influence at NMH in 2016

The Department of Health has denied claims from Dr Peter Boylan that it was warned last year about a possible religious influence on the new National Maternity Hospital.

The former master of Holles Street says the Department was given the warning “some time ago” by the head of the Dublin-based hospital group.

But the Department of Health says there’s no record of any such letter being received.

Dr Boylan’s also rejected a call from the Deputy Chairman of the board for his resignation after he voiced concerns about the plan.

He says some of the finer details of the deal haven’t been worked out, although the main plan has been approved by the board.
