Chief Superintendent says prosecutions may follow if ‘shebeens’ are uncovered

The Chief Superintendent of the Roscommon, Longford and Mayo garda division says anyone with any information on pubs that are open, or so called “shebeens”, should contact them.

The senior police officer was speaking as gardai announced an increase in compliance checks and monitoring of road traffic restrictions over the next two weeks.

Chief Superintendent Tony Healy was asked on the Let’s Talk show this afternoon about reports of pubs and shebeens allegedly operating in the Shannonside region during the Covid lockdown.

He says anyone who has information should pass it on to the gardai and the reports will be fully investigated with prosecutions if necessary.
