A spokesperson for the 71-year-old cleric said that he has written a pastoral letter to the congregation of Clogher.

The letter, in which he discusses his medical condition and reflects on diocesan life, will be read at masses this weekend.

Bishop Liam was ordained in Saint Macartan’s Cathedral in Monaghan in 2010 having been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI

Governance of the diocese is now assumed by the College of Consultors which will meet in the coming days to elect a Diocesan Administrator who will lead the diocese until a new bishop is appointed by Pope Francis.
