Bishop of Elphin confirms mass will be web-streamed due to Covid-19

The Diocese of Elphin is broadcasting mass via webcam across the region so that Shannonside parishioners can spiritually attend.

Bishop Kevin Doran is encouraging people to avail of the broadcasts, which will be accessible at 10.30am and 7pm daily.

All public mass has been suspended up until the 29th of March with the exception of funeral and marriage ceremonies.

Confirmation has also been postponed for the moment and – according to a statement from the diocese – arrangements will be made to confirm children as soon as possible.

Speaking to Shannonside FM, Bishop Doran – who is currently saying mass at a closed Sligo Cathedral – says the churches won’t be fully closed:

Elsewhere, all Masses in the parish of Roscommon and Kilteevan will be celebrated in private until 29th March inclusive.

Masses in Roscommon Church will be broadcast on local church radio frequency.

Also the Blessed Sacrament Chapel will be closed from today until further notice.
