Thousands of homes are expected to be developed in the region before 2030.

Close to 300 homes have been built in Longford and Roscommon in the last 12 months as part of the Government's Housing for All scheme.

The initiative was launched in September 2021 and promised to deliver 300,000 new homes by 2030.

The plan features support to make homes cheaper and more energy efficient and to retrofit 500,000 existing homes in the next 8 years.

The strategy has been heavily criticised by local councillors since its inception last year, with many representatives arguing that the qualifications for the support are difficult to meet with the unique challenges facing local authorities.

294 homes have been built between Longford and Roscommon, with 268 homes receiving planning permission by the end of April 2022.

In Roscommon, Housing for All initiatives saw the construction of 164 new homes across the county and the approval of planning permission for a further 160.

According to new government figures, over 13 million euro was provided to Roscommon County Council for the provision of housing in 2021.

Meanwhile, 130 new homes were completed in Longford during the same period, with county planners greenlighting 108 residential planning applications.

73 new homes were built in Leitrim in the 12 months to end of June 2022  and commencement Notices for 79 homes were received in Leitrim in the 12 months to the end of July 2022.

Planning permissions for 98 homes in Leitrim to the end of Q1 2022 were also received.
