Abortion to become legal in Northern Ireland from midnight

Abortion is set to become legal in Northern Ireland from midnight.

Same-sex marriage will also become legal and will be introduced in January.

A vigil is taking place in Dublin today to mark the changes.

MPs at Westminster voted to decriminalise both abortion and same-sex marriage, unless a new power-sharing government is in place at Stormont by the end of today.

A vigil is taking place in Dublin this evening to mark the law changes in the North.

Sarah Ewart, from the north, had to travel to England for an abortion after a diagnosis of a fatal foetal abnormality.

She’s glad others won’t have to go through the same thing:

The vigil begins at 5.30 this evening at The Spire.
