Public consultation on new Ballymahon to Athlone route

A public consultation event it to is held next week ahead of a plan to create an entirely new route linking Ballymahon to Athlone.

Earlier this year Westmeath county Council revealed plans to realign the N55 between Ballymahon and the Pigeons in order to make the route safer for motorists and to remove dozens of access points on the busy road.

A public consultation event was held in Tang this year, but earlier this month it was confirmed that the council was now proceeding with plans for a completely new road between south Longford and Athlone.

A public consultation event on those plans is being held next week to show people the ideas for a road from Cornamaddy, Athlone to Ballymahon, extending out as far as Annaghgortagh, Corr Cross, Rath, Kilkenny West, Lurgan, Ballynakill Upper and Portaneena.

The event will take place in Tubberclair Community Centre between 2.00pm and 8.00pm and make your views known.
