Division 2 Final: Cavan v Westmeath- The Cavan perspective

This Sunday will see the Cavan ladies contest the Division 2 league final as they continue their quest to play in the top tier in 2018 when they take on Westmeath on Sunday in Parnell Park.

During the week the members of the team were in attendance at the Crover House hotel in Cavan for the launch of their fund raising Golf Classic which will be taking place on the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Shannonside Northern Sound reporter Damien Donohoe was in attendance and he spoke to manager Aidan Mc Cabe who stepped into the role a week before the opening game of the league and he agreed with Damien that it perhaps was not the easiest of starts to the campaign.

Shauna Lynch is the Feile ambassador for Cavan and also a member of the ladies panel and she explained to Damien that there is major competition for places on the panel

Nessa Byrd is one of the newer members of the panel and she made no secret of the fact to Damien  that she would like to wrap up the league campaign with a medal in her pocket and promotion to division 1.

Westmeath ladies football manager Stephen Maxwell has picked his side ahead of the game. Karen Walsh is in goal. Rachel Dillon and Aileen are the cornerbacks while Amie Giles is at full-back  The half-backline consists of Fiona Coyle, Rebecca Dunne and Laura Brennan. Karen McDermott and Maud-Anne Foley are in midfield. Fiona Claffey, Leona Archibald and Kelly Boyce-Jordan are the half-forwards.
