fiona-tully  Fiona Tully added to her ever-increasing medal haul when she teamed up with Jennifer McCormack to win the 60×30 2nd Level Colleges Senior Doubles All-Ireland held in Wexford recently. Representing the Convent of Mercy, Roscommon the girls defeated Dearbhail O’Keefe and Eilis O’Shea from Grennan College, Kilkenny 15-10, 15-11 n a hard fought semi-final. Fiona, as expected dominated proceedings and just had too much class for the Noresiders. The final was a far more straight-forward affair as the Convent girls easily accounted for Karen Gould and Laura Shinners of Borrisokane CC 15-8, 15-3 winning probably a lot more comfortably than the score suggests.

Roscommon Community College’s Michael Egan and Gareth Delaney looked a very powerful comibination beforehand but they lost a semi-final they should probably have won in the Intermediate Doubles grade against Castlecomer’s Ciaran Cooney and Eoin Regan. Michael was undoubtedly the best player in the court, but Gareth unfortunately had problems with the very low roof which affected his high overhand shots and despite and impressive comeback in the second game the Roscommon disappointingly went down 15-10, 10-15, 15-4.
