Another busy weekend of GAA action in Roscommon has reached a conclusion. The County Under 17 football team put in a very creditable performance against Tyrone in the All Ireland final in Croke park yesterday. The full time score line of 2-18 to 0-15 failed to tell the true story of the match as Roscommon battled bravely in the second half and really put in a serious challenge to the Red Hand County.
Elsewhere there was action a plenty in the senior Football championship. In Section A, the defending champions, St Brigid’s suffered a defeat for the second week running. They went down to Western Gales. Boyle recorded another vital win with a two piont victory over St Faithelach’s. Roscommon Gales provided further evidence to suggest that they are right in the mix to win the championship outright. The gales defeated Pádraig Pearses by three points.
In Section B, St Croan’s scored five goals against Castlerea, Strokestown and Clan na nGael finished level and Elphin had three points to spare against Kilmore in a local derby which was played in Kilglass.
