Roscommon 0-14 Mayo 1-19

Roscommon were defeated by Beaten All Ireland finalists Mayo by an 8 point margin in round 3 of division one of the Allianz national football league this evening in front of a crowd of 11,657. 1-19 to 0-14 was the final tally with Cillian O Connor nabbing the goal near the start of the second half.

Roscommon took the early control on the scoreboard leading by 0-03 to 0-01 with Mayo kicking 3 wides. Shane Killoran,Fintan Cregg and Donie Smith pointing for  the primrose and blue with Andy Moran on target for the red and green.

Cillian OConnor was next up to the scoresheet kicking two in a row. Fergal Boland then put Mayo in the lead . By the 17th Minute Mayos sixth point in a row had them leading by 0-07 to 0-03. Mayo carried on their momentum through Cillian OConnor kicking his fourth score of the game,his brother Diarmuid then put over their 9th point to give them a 6 point advantage. Roscommon reduced the deficit for their first point in 17 minutes through Donie Smith.


Colm Boyle was black carded for Mayo and was replaced by Westports Lee Keegan in the 29th minute.while Shane Killoran received a black card for Roscommon and was replaced by the returning Ciaran Caffreky in the 24th minute.

Next action of the game was through a Ciaran Murtagh point making it 0-09 to 0-05.

Donal Vaughan and Conor OShea helped push Mayo further ahead and their 11 points had come from 7 scorers and by the end of the game their 1-19 total had 12 scorers. At Half time the score was reading Mayo 0-11 Roscommon 0-05

The second half started badly for Roscommon with a penalty awarded to Mayo which was converted by Cillian OConnor giving them a 9 point lead.

From here on in Roscommon scored 0-09 to Mayos 0-08 ,notably Donie Smith and Conor Devaney scored 3 points each from play in the game but it wasn’t enough to put a dent in the scoreline.
