The Roscommon senior football team has been named to play Galway in next Sunday’s FBD league final in Kiltoom.
With last year’s beaten Provincial finalists opening their Allianz football league campaign away to Tyrone in just over a week’s time, there is significant interest in Kevin McStay’s selection with County’s supporters looking for a glimpse to what the starting fifteen could be for the league opener with the Red Hand County on Sunday week in Omagh.
In total there are four changes from the side that played Mayo in Roscommon’s final group game on Sunday last. McStay’s charges suffered a narrow defeat in that game due in no small part to the concession of two late goals which were scored by Andy Moran.
When it comes to the selection for the final, as expected Darren O’Malley return to the goal keeping position in place of Colm Lavin who made his debut in the defeat against Stephen Rochford’s men. Western Gael’s Seanie McDermott has been selected in place of David Murray who played at right corner back on Sunday last.
There are further alterations made to the Roscommon defence with Sean Mullooly being named in the number six shirt. Mullooly’s inclusion will release Ultan Harney to move from centre-back to full-forward, while the previous occupier of the number 14 position Tom Corcoran will revert to midfield.
Roscommon will be looking to establish a settled midfield partnership ahead of the more serious business which is fast approaching, and for Sunday Corcoran will partner Tadgh O’Rourke. Kevin Higgins misses out on a starting role in the middle of the field and will be joined on the bench by Enda Smith who makes way for Shane killoran in the final chnage McStay has made to the side compared to the selection that played last weekend.
