History has been made as Boyle Celtic have progressed to the last 8 of the FAI Junior Cup for the first time in their history. The North Roscommon side welcomed VEC FC from Tenure to their home ground . Boyle won the encounter by two goals to nil.
They had the perfect start with Niall Brennan scoring in the 7th minute as their manager Darren Hurd had a 4-3-2-1 formation. Boyle were dominate for the first twenty minutes before the visitors came into the tie but there was limited chances in the first half.
Boyle Celtic switched to a 4-4-2 formation in the second half and VEC pushed on in the last twenty minutes as they needed an equaliser. Niall Murray had a couple of chances but it was in injury time they next hit the scoresheet after man of the match Battles was fouled in the box and Luka Roddy converted the penalties.
After the game our reporter Edward Conroy spoke with the Boyle Celtic manager Darren Hurd.
Darren says that he is delighted with the win and that their opponents had a great away record but they managed to tie them down and had their chances and when asked about the draw he said ‘I don’t care who get as whether home or away as we are in the next round’
Elsewhere in the Herald Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League Ballinasloe Town saw off Moore United 1-0. Ballymoe beat Brazukas 5-4. and Castlerea Celtic defeated Shiven Rovers 5-2
