plenty of change at GAA Congress

A round robin stage will replace the All-Ireland football quarter-finals from next year after Congress voted in favour of changes to the Championship structure.
it was passed with 76% of the vote. The structure sees counties split into two groups of four with the top two qualifying for the All-Ireland semi-finals.
It will be in place for a three year trial period from 2018.

Also at Congress, delegates have voted to move the All-Ireland hurling and football finals to August instead of the traditional September period.
And another new rule will see extra-time in all hurling and football championship games, except provincial and All-Ireland finals.

The promotion/relegation playoffs will be gone in Christy Ring/Nicky Rachard now automatic promotion/relegation will occur

GAA Director-General and Monaghan man Paraic Duffy says he’s delighted that the delegates were open to the change.

Also at the congress the Club Players Association failed to get official recognition from the GAA after the motion was withdrawn.

The GPA and the CPA are both against the restructured championship, and GPA Chief Executive Dermot Early has maintained his view that the players were not consulted enough ahead of the vote.
