Mathews feels O’Neill club rumours unhelpful to international side

Stoke City appointed Paul Lambert as the club’s new manager after a week of speculation linking republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill to the job.

O’Neill has also been linked with the West Ham United and Everton vacancies.

Former Longford Town and Athlone Town boss Alan Mathews told Shannonside Northern Sound, he feels that the linking of Martin O’Neill to premier league managerial jobs does not do the international side any favour’s.
