Saint Columba’s Mullinalaghta retain the Longford senior football championship

Saint Columba’s Mullinalaghta retained the Connolly cup with a three point win over Abbeylara in the Peter Hanley Motors Longford Senior football championship.

Abbeylara have now been beaten by three points in each of the last three finals. It finished Saint Columba’s Mullinalaghta 0-13 Abbeylara 1-07.

The defending champions had a five points to three points lead at halftime. Robbie Smyth converted an Abbeylara penalty 10 minutes into the second half, leaving Abbeylara trailing by two points.


The inter-county star kicked the next two points to level the game five minutes later.

Abbeylara’s Jayson Mattthews was sent off late on for a second yellow card and Robbie Smyth kicked the final point of the game but its Saint Columba’s who march on into the Leinster championship.

Mullinalaghta’s Rian Brady was awarded the man of the match for his contribution of four points.
