Denis Conerton’s men got their O’Byrne Cup campaign off to a flying start with a six point victory over Louth, wining out 2-19 to 1-10.
Padraic Gill sent in a fourth minute goal as Longford led 1-2 to no score before Louth struck back with a goal of their own as Longford led 1-9 to 1-4 at half time.
Louth looked to have got a foothold in the game as they played with the assistance of a strong second half wind and with Padraig McCormack receiving a black card on 57 minutes.
Louth levelled the scoring at 1-10 a piece on 62 minutes before Andrew Farrell nabbed a goal two minutes later.
Sean McCormack added two points as Longford won out 2-13 to 1-10.
In the Keohe Cup, Colm O’Meara got his reign off to flyer as Longford ran in four goals at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park to beat Louth 4-11 to 2-10.
