Longford bounced back to victory in division three of the Allianz football league with a six point win over Wexford on Sunday.
Abbeylara’s Robbie Smyth 39th minute goal was the turning point in the game as the sides were locked at seven points apiece.
The hosts had led by two points at half-time, 0-7 to 0-5, with Smyth’s goal titling the game in Longford’s favour. Wexford finished the game with 14 men after Daithi Waters was red carded.
“It’s great to have six points out of the eight” explained Longford boss Denis Connerton. “We would have loved to have eight from eight.”
“Leaving Armagh two week’s ago we were very frustrated and annoyed and today we just said we have got to get back on board and get the two points.”
“It was a massive battle to get them and the goal by Robbie was crucial for us.”
“I wouldn’t be overly happy with the performance” Connerton told Shannonside Northern Sound’s John Duffy after the game.
“There are no easy games in this division” explained Connerton. “It will go down to the last few minutes and it will be a tough game”
