The Longford Convention took place last night in Abbeyshrule and GAA presidential candidate Martin Skelly spoke to Shannonsides John Duffy after about the unanimous endorsement giving to Martin ahead of congress in 2017.
“Im very enthused by the level of support that I would have within my own county and it was heart-warming tonight to have so many good wishes and obviously the full endorsement of Longford GAA behind my endeavours to come Uachtarain of the GAA”
The announcement of the next President of the association will be announced in February with Martin coming up against Clare’s Robert Frost, Galway’s Frank Kelly, Kerry’s Sean Walsh and Dublin’s John Horan.
Martin would be the first Longford man to become president and he spoke of his hope of achieving this personal dream.
“It would be great if all Longfordians thought well of me for the next two and a half months and you never know a phone call here or there could turn into something cause it will be small margins as shown here tonight that can win elections but I have no doubt that everyone from this county and indeed friends of Longford will hopefully put their good will behind my effort to become president”
Martin was elected as a delegate to congress and will have some interesting motions from Longford to bring to congress so plenty of to look forward to for Martin and Longford in the next coming months.
Here at Shannonside we wish all the new elected candidates with the Longford board the very best and also wishing Martin the best of luck with the election for Uachtarain in February.
