Aughnasheelin bowed out of the Connacht intermediate football championship following a one sided defeat to Sligo’s St. John’s.
Aughnasheelin failed to register a score in the opening period having played into a gaelforce breeze and trailed at half-time 2-9 to no score.
Things didn’t improve in the second half, although Aughnasheelin did register three second half points by the 49th minute of the game.
“We knew coming into the game we were under pressure without a couple of our bigger players” explained Aughnasheelin manager David Casey.
“We played against the breeze in the first half and really found it very difficult. We’re not a big physical team we’re a small team and the conditions didn’t suit us.”
“We didn’t put a huge focus into today as the county title was our big focus” added Casey. “In saying that, you always want to perform.”
“We always knew we would struggle with the injuries we were carrying.”
