Galway will be taking the Liam McCarthy back to the west for the first time since 1988.
They edged Waterford by 0-26 to 2-17 at Croke Park in a a thrilling contest in the All Ireland hurling final.
Galway enjoyed a bright start but Waterford kept within touching distance through out with the game level over 10 times. Heartbreak helped motivate Galway. The Tribemen lost on the same stage to Kilkenny in 2015.
Waterford’s wait to win the All Ireland hurling title will continue for another 12 months. They failed to end a 58 year barren spell at Croke Park.
