Roscommon County Council Director of Services Majella hunt says the council is making progress on clearing drifts on national routes around the county, but people should still stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
Speaking to Shannonside FM News the Roscommon council official says the roads in the north of the county have escaped the worst of the snowfall.
In Longford, the south of the county also appears to have been worst affected area, and many roads there are still blocked this lunchtime.
Council Director of Services John Brannigan says they are also concentrating on clearing the national roads first in order to provide a transport network in the region.
He says they hope to be able to begin clearing some footpaths in towns as part of their clear-up work.
