Tributes are being paid to the north Leitrim resident who died in a landslide on the Roscommon/Sligo border last night.
At about 6.30 yesterday evening, two men were working on a construction site on the Kilronan Mountain at Arigna when the incident occurred.
After a search-and-rescue operation by gardai and the fire service, a 37-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 2.30 this morning.
He has been named locally as Patrick Mc Caffrey from Carrickmacross.
The other man was not injured.
Local Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny paid tribute to construction worker, who is from Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan and lived in Rossinver in north Leitrim.
In a statement, this evening, a spokesperson for the firm who employed the man have expressed their sympathy to his family.
The company, Moriarty Civil engineering, who are based in Tralee, said that they will be carrying out their own technical examination to discover what t caused the blog slide which resulted in their employee’s death.
The spokesperson said they have never experienced an incident like this before and the site has bene shut down until full-determination of what happened and why can be discovered.
They say Mr. McCaffrey was well liked and they have passed on their deepest sympathies to his family.
