An auctioneers in Oldcastle has become the focus of world wide media interest this week due to one unusual lot which has caught the public imagination.
An eight and a half inch carved ivory penis which is described as a “forget-me-knot” from an old Anglo-Irish military family will go under the hammer at Mathews Auctioneers on the Square in Oldcastle this weekend.
The vintage piece of erotica is reported as being from the Victorian era,and is thought to be very rare.
Damien Mathews says he has put a guide price of €500 to €800 euro on the lot but has no real idea of how much it could fetch.
The auctioneer says , the item is more a token of love, than a piece of erotica.
