Students at secondary school level in county Leitrim are losing out.
That’s according to Fianna Fail TD Eamon Scanlon who says he’s shocked to discover there are no Leaving Cert Applied options available to students in Co Leitrim.
Raising the issue in the Dáil this week, Deputy Scanlon said he’d been contacted by a parent in Leitrim whose child’s education psychologist had recommended the student enrol in an Applied Leaving Cert course.
Deputy Scanlon said the school the child attends in Leitrim does not supply the course, and when he checked further he found that no school in county Leitrim is offering the Leaving Cert Applied curriculum.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said he would ask the Education Minister to look into the issue , and said he believed the matter is of some concern if it means that young people in Leitrim are not able to access the course.
