Updated cancellations and closures in the Shannonside region due to Storm Emma

The east of country has woken up to a blanket of snow with a red weather warning in place.

It came into effect for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath at 5 this morning and will remain in place until 12 tomorrow afternoon.

An orange alert has been extended to Cork, Waterford and Wexford.

Update: 15.35

Due to the worsening weather conditions in Leinster and Munster, additional IWA services have decided to close including; IWA Athlone ROC, IWA Roscommon ROC.

Community Supports Services in areas impacted by the Status Red Warning will remain closed.

Update 15.30 – Bus Eireann 

School Transport
The Department of Education & Skills have stated the following statement:
“Munster and Leinster – all schools, third level institutions, colleges and centres of further education in red areas will be closed tomorrow and Friday.
In relation to Connaught and Ulster decisions on school closures will be made individually depending on the circumstances in their area. The situation in Connaught and Ulster will be kept under review”
Athlone Town Route A1 and Route A2 have been cancelled

Routes 70, 72, 73, 440 & 466 are also cancelled

Update 15.25

Strokestown bingo is cancelled.

Due to the adverse weather conditions the sitting of Roscommon Circuit Court scheduled for 1st & 2nd March 2018 has been  cancelled

· Where possible, Post Offices in the Red Alert Zone(which includes Longford) will be open from 9am – 1pm tomorrow (Thursday). In other areas, normal services will be maintained where possible and depending on local weather and road conditions.

· An Post reminds all customers due to collect social welfare payments at Post Offices that their payments will be available for collection when this period of bad weather passes – please stay safe and do not make unnecessary journeys.

An Post will keep customers informed at anpost.ie and via national and social media over the coming days.

Due to inclement weather, Longford MD Meeting cancelled today and Ballymahon MD Meeting which was scheduled for Friday.

Roscommon for Life meeting in The Rooskey Center Thursday 1st March @8pm cancelled. Will be rearranged at a future date

The Leitrim Joint Policing Committee Public Meeting which was due to take place on Thursday 1st March, 2018 at 7.30 p.m. in The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim has been postponed.

All Expressway services from Dublin are now operating with some delays and curtailments
X2, Wexford/Dublin Airport is cancelled
X4, 1100 services from Waterford is cancelled, 1300 is under review
X8, 0930 from Dublin Airport and 10.00, 16.00 services from Cork are Cancelled
Route 12 / X12   Limerick /Dublin   all services cancelled
Route 40, 1140, 1240 and 1340 services are cancelled from Cork to
Route 40, Waterford/Cork 0800, 0900, 1000, 1100 are cancelled, 1200 and 1300 are under review


Please note that all P.S.O services in the East are not operating with the exception of sporadic services on the following:

  • 100X Dundalk – Dublin
  • 126 Newbridge – Dublin
  • 133 Wicklow – Dublin

 All other P.S.O serviceas in the Eastern region are not operating.

North East

Services to/from Cavan are cancelled.

At present no services are operating ex Cavan until situation improves, services are cancelled  including 109X, 111A, 187

Route 182, 08:00 ex Monaghan to Drogheda is also cancelled.


Route A1 not serving Battery Heights and Route A2 not serving Arcadia and Coosan.

  • Route 70 will resume at 12:45 if conditions allows
    Route 72  11.25  Limerick/ Athlone
  • Route 72  14.25 Limerick Athlone
  • Route 73 is cancelled
  • Route 440 will resume at 11:45 ex Athlone with the 11:00 ex Westport terminating in Knock Airport.
  • Route 466 will resume at 16:30.


City services are operateing with delays

223 services cannot serve Ringaskiddy, major delays on the Passage / Monkstown road

11:30 route 237 service to Skibbereen operating with delays, 13:30 route 237 to Goleen cancelled

West Cork services in general (anything originating beyond Inishannon i.e. 236, 237, 238, 239) do not operate
240 services (Ballycotton / Cloyne) cannot operate as an artic truck blocks the road between Cloyne and Ballinacurra
241 service (Whitegate) operates via the main road
10:30 Cork – Clonmel route 245 service operating with a 40 minute delay, resulting in the 11:30 to Fermoy  & 13:30 to Clonmel route 245 services ex Cork Cancelled

Carrigaline is still inaccessible / impassable so 220 services operate between EMC / Ballincollig and Douglas Village

All services to and from Bandon currently not operating.

Innishannon is impassable at present resulting in the cancellation of all our West Cork services – 236/237/239.  I expect West Cork will deteriorate as the day continues.

South West

Route 323 Birr/Limerick – operating
Route 328 Galbally/Limerick – cancelled
Route 341 Cappamore/Limerick – cancelled
Route 347 Tipperary/Limerick- cancelled

City Services are operating in Limerick, but delays are expected

All services in Kerry and Clare operating with some delays.


425 Ex Longford to Galway service cancelled.

At this time the 9.30 ex dap to cork x8 has not operated which will also mean the 16.00 from cork will not operate

The Daffodil Day launch to be held in the Bush Hotel, Carrick on Shannon tonight (Wednesday) at 7pm has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

The Longford  AGM of the IFA is cancelled tonight in the Backstage Theatre.

The government has confirmed they will double the fuel allowance for this week.

Around 330,000 people will benefit from the extra 22.50 this week to heat their homes, according to Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty.

Bus Eireann

Bus Eireann services have also been affected by the snowfall across the country.

All Expressway services from Dublin are cancelled and Expressway services from outside Eastern Region are unable to operate past Dublin Airport/into Dublin and the 20 and x20 is terminating at Athlone

Services to/from Cavan are cancelled and at present no services are operating ex Cavan until situation improves, services are cancelled including 109X, 111A, 187

Route 461 (07:25) Athlone-Roscommon will not operate.
Route A1 and A2 are not operating at the moment on Athlone town service.

All other cancellations:

Weight Watchers classes in the Longford Arms have been cancelled for the day.

The Mohill active age AGM in Mohill has been cancelled for today (Wed) due to the forthcoming inclement weather.

Lanesboro social services whist drive has been cancelled for Friday night 2nd March.

Bingo in Drumsna Resource centre on Thurs night is cancelled due to a bereavement.

Ardagh & Moydow active age party has been postponed from this Sunday 4th March to Sunday 8th April due to predicted adverse weather conditions.

“The Adoration Chapel in St Coman’s Chapel In St. Coman’s’ club Roscommon will close at 6pm Wednesday until further notice.
