Tubberclair National School is set to receive funding for what’s been described as an “urgently” needed four classroom extension .
The school, which caters for 269 boys and girls, was included in the Major School Building Projects announced by the then Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan in November 2015.
The Department of Education has now confirmed that funding will be provided for the school in South Westmeath to add four new mainstream classrooms.
The original school building dates from 1961 and has already been extended twice to cope with growing numbers, in 1976 and in 1992.
Welcoming the news Longford/Westmeath TD Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran said Tubberclair school is one of the fastest growing in the region and the extension had been urgently needed for some time.
